The Queen’s Breakfast

Elizabeth Tudor her breakfast would make
On a pot of strong beer and a pound of beefsteak
Ere six in the morning was tolled by the chimes—
Oh, the days of Queen Bess, they were doughty old times!
-anonymous
Wow! strong beer and a pound of steak. Doughty indeed!
Remember drinking WATER in those days could be hazardous to your health. Also, Beer and Ale were considered like liquid bread in those days. Her palace was drafty, dark, and cold. She had probably already been up for hours and worked hard before tucking into that steak.
So things change. Even breakfast.
